Growth Characteristics   The smooth aster is a 2-4 feet tall plant and 1-2 feet wide.  Grows rapidly. It is easy to grow and low maintenance.  It is covered in daisy-like violet flowers in September to late fall. This aster should be planted 1-3 feet apart.  It will reseed naturally.

Hardiness: Climate zone 4-8

Light Requirements: Full sun to partial shade.

Water Needs:  Keep moist in the summer for the first year until established, then it is drought tolerant.

Soil Preference:  Any well-drained garden soils, as well as sandy and rocky soils.

DISEASE, PEST, AND DEER RESISTANCE

Little resistance to deer and rabbits. No serious insect or disease problems.

SITE CONSIDERATIONS

Use as a border and in pollinator gardens or naturalized areas.
