Growth Characteristics   New England aster can grow 3 to 7 feet tall. Large, purple flowers with a yellow center mature from August to October. Is easy to maintain. Plant 1-3 feet apart. Makes great cut flowers for arrangements. Plants can be cut to the ground after flowering to promote strong new growth.

Light Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade

Water Needs:  Keep moist in the summer with some drying periods.

Soil Preference:  Prefers moist clayey soils with high organic content, well drained and occasionally dry.

Resistant to deer.  Good air circulation will help prevent foliar diseases.

Use in butterfly, rain and pollinator gardens.  The tall stems may need support in part shade locations.
