Name:Short Toothe Mountain Mint – Pycnanthemum muticum

Type: Perennial Flower

Growth Characteristics   Mountain mint grows 3 to 4 feet tall in a space of 2 to 3 feet. Smaller white flowers bloom from June to August.  Plant 2 feet apart. Although not considered invasive, it is a vigorous grower, spreading its rhizomes, in optimum conditions. If spreading is not needed or wanted, the roots should be pruned in the spring with a spade. The leaves emit a strong spearmint fragrance when crushed. Is easy to grow.

Light Requirements: Full sun to partial shade.

Water Needs:  Keep moist in the summer for the first year until established; then water needs are less.

Soil Preference:  Prefers moist and well-drained soils, and once established, will tolerate dry soils.

Resistant to deer.  No serious insect or disease problems.

SITE CONSIDERATIONS

Use in all types of gardens in a group or a mass planting.  Give the plants a lot of room to spread and grow.
