Growth Characteristics  Sweet goldenrod is a low maintenance perennial wildflower growing 2-3 feet tall and 1-2 feet wide. It has gracefully arching stems of yellow flowers that erupt from basal clumps in the late summer and early fall. It is primarily clump-forming and does not spread aggressively as do some of the other goldenrod species. Is low maintenance and a moderate grower.

Light Requirements: Full and partial sun

Water Needs:  Moderate water needs; tolerates both moist and dry conditions.

Soil Preference:  Grows in all soil types that are well-drained.

This plant is resistant to deer and rabbits. No major diseases.

SITE CONSIDERATIONS

Would grow well along a border or in a butterfly, cottage, or herb garden.  Also use in meadows and naturalized areas.

Attracts butterflies, bees, and songbirds.  Numerous bee species are attracted to the flowers.

Leaves can be used to make tea. It is often accused of causing hay fever because it blooms at the same time as some wind-borne pollen plants (like ragweed).
